Job Description:

Seeking a Lab Tech to join a Food Company in Southern New Jersey.
This is a 2nd shift role (2-10:30pm).
Essential Functions:
General:

  • Conduct self in a professional and cooperative manner at all times.
  • Know and understand Food Safety Principles:   HACCP, GMP’s.
  • Know and understand Laboratory Safety Principles, GLP’s and safety procedures.
  • Know and understand Microbiology (preferably as it pertains to food) Principles.
  • Know and understand Quality Assurance and Control principles as they relate to the daily QA activities assigned.
  • Always conduct self in a safe manner as per Company Policy.
  • Committed to providing a safe food product
  • Works within all regulatory requirements
  • Ability to adhere to GMP practices and all other food safety requirements
  • Perform all other related duties as required
 
Specific:
  • Maintain work areas, laboratory areas and rooms in a clean and orderly manner.
  • Maintain laboratory instruments and equipment for testing and inspection in a safe, clean and professional manner.
  • Maintain records, logs and notebooks.
  • Retain records properly as assigned.
  • Enter data into the Quality Module of SAP accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Conduct transactions in SAP as required.
  • Maintain, update procedures, conduct required and appropriate training (MM & MP in QDS) as required.
  • Perform projects and special requests (committees, continuous improvement, etc.).
  • Perform sample preparation as required.
  • Perform testing and inspections as it pertains to analytical, sensory and microbiological testing, review results and communicate non-conformances, maintain appropriate logs.
  • Conduct environmental monitoring program and corrective actions, GMP’s as assigned.
  • Train and update fellow staff and plant personnel in quality test procedures and methods as required.
  • Conduct audits as assigned and required (GMP, ISO, special).
  • Submit reports:   NCR’S, environmental, test frequency, audits (GMP, ISO, Product Shelf Life, etc.) required.
  • Participate in third party and internal audits as assigned.
  • Communicate issues in a timely, accurate and professional manner – verbally, e-mail, databases, SAP, etc.
  • Maintain supplies and inventory in an efficient manner and submit requests for supplies as necessary in a timely manner.
  • Manage daily activities in an effective and efficient manner, minimize need for overtime.

Job Requirements
  • BA/BS degree (Food Science, Microbiology, Biology, Chemistry preferred).
  • High level of computer competency (SAP, Microsoft Office).
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • High level of experience in the Food Industry or related GMP regulated industry highly desirable.
  • Understanding of Food Safety, HACCP, GMP principles highly desirable.
