Job Description:

 

Our Client is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Payroll Director to manage and assist in payroll-related projects. This position will be based on-site in Redwood City, CA, and will focus on resolving payroll discrepancies, ensuring tax compliance, and administering 401(k) corrections. The Payroll Director will spend 70% of their time leading payroll project, with a strong emphasis on payroll corrections and historical tax issues.

 

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

Payroll Projects (70% Focus):

  • Lead payroll projects focused on resolving historical payroll discrepancies, including taxation issues from prior years and 401(k) corrections.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external consultants to address payroll errors and compliance issues.
  • Implement process improvements to enhance payroll accuracy and ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.

 

Process Improvement:

  • Develop and implement strategies for improving payroll processes
  • Ensure all payroll processes align with company policies and legal requirements, reducing the risk of future discrepancies.

 

Tax Compliance & Auditing:

  • Ensure accurate tax reporting and compliance with multi-state payroll tax regulations.
  • Assist in payroll audits with cross functional accounting teams
  • Manage year-end tax filings and ensure W-2s and 941s are accurately prepared.

 

Payroll Operations (30% Focus):

  • Oversee the accurate and timely processing of payroll using Workday and ADP systems.
  • Review and approve payroll entries, adjustments, and corrections as needed.
  • Resolve payroll system issues, ensuring timely resolution and minimal disruption to payroll cycles.

 

Reporting & Analysis:

  • Prepare and present reports on payroll project progress, compliance efforts, and payroll data to the Assistant Controller.
  • Conduct data analysis to identify trends and provide insights into payroll performance and improvements.

 

Team Collaboration:

  • Work closely with HR, finance, and benefits teams to ensure payroll corrections are processed accurately.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the payroll team, fostering a collaborative and compliance-focused environment.

 

 

Qualifications:

  • Experience: 7+ years of payroll experience with extensive expertise in payroll corrections, tax compliance, and 401(k) administration.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Payroll Systems Expertise: Proficiency in Workday Payroll, ADP SmartCompliance, Google Drive/Google Suite, Slack

 

Skills:

  • Extensive experience in resolving payroll discrepancies and handling payroll corrections.
  • Strong knowledge of multi-state payroll tax regulations and 401(k) plan administration.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel for payroll data analysis.

 

Preferred:

  • Experience managing payroll for large, multi-state organizations.
  • Knowledge of payroll accounting and integration with financial systems.
