 Software Engineer – Test Automation
Apex Systems is a global IT services provider, and our staffing practice has an opening for a Software Engineer focused on Web App test automation with a strong JavaScript background, the extensive Selenium and Cypress experience and the ability to implement Datadog monitoring tools to place at our client, a major eCommerce Marketplace.
Client: Major eCommerce Marketplace
Terms: 6-Month Rolling Contract.
Location: Hybrid – Toronto (once per week)

Project:
  • The team is focused on supporting their B2B retailer facing web product offering and need someone dedicated to writing end-to-end automation scripts and test cases for everything from log-in to check-out, including search, logistic tracking, payment etc.
  • The team is also in the early stages of Datadog integration, and this individual will be responsible for handling that integration and automated testing processes using Datadog, as well as implement additional enhancements within the existing monitoring dashboards.
  • The group supports the process for Application releases which would involve writing scripts from scratch and performance testing may make up 20-30% of the work – primarily looking for the ability to write test cases that account for latency of end-points.
  • They are responsible for ongoing feedback, which will be instrumental in providing continuous improvement of the environment.
Job Description:
  • Design, develop, and execute automated tests using JavaScript with Cypress and Selenium.
  • Collaborate with development teams to understand requirements and develop test plans.
  • Enhance test frameworks and ensure comprehensive test coverage.
  • Utilize Datadog for implementing DDC check coverage, probers, synthetic tests, and rule-based monitoring.
  • Set up alerts and dashboards using Datadog to monitor system health and performance.
  • Investigate test failures, log defects, and track resolution.
  • Continuously improve testing methodologies, processes, and tools.
  • Provide insight and recommendations to improve system performance and reliability.
Key Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in software testing and automation with JavaScript, Cypress, and Selenium.
  • Strong proficiency in creating and managing test frameworks.
  • Proficient in using Datadog, specifically in check coverage, probers, synthetic tests, and alerting.
  • Experience with rule-based monitoring and alerting strategies.
  • Solid understanding of software development lifecycle and agile methodologies.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Tools & Technologies:
  • 5+ years with JavaScript
  • 2+ years of Datadog
    • Preference for individuals with implementation backgrounds.
  • 3+ years using Cypress
  • 3+ years using Selenium
  • An understanding of Jira/Confluence
  • Familiarity with an AWS environment.
  • CICD pipeline experience is crucial.
  • Web application testing background with a focus on eCommerce.
  • Familiarity with other testing tools or environments.
  • Background in performance testing and optimization
