JOB DESCRIPTION
The Benefits Director is responsible for administration of health and welfare plans for Apex Systems. This role provides special guidance and assistance to all locations on various employee benefit plans, as needed. This role manages vendor relationships as well as recommends and implements approved, new, or modified plans and employee benefits policies. You will develop strategies to aid the compliance with applicable national requirements. The Benefits Director surveys industry and/or community to determine companys competitive position in employee benefits and recommends, coordinates, and installs approved, new, or modified plans and employee benefit policies in addition to the administration of existing plans. You will manage the benefits team and work with internal partners to establish systems, reporting and other tools need to administer the plans
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Administering employee benefits programs for two populations, such as 401(k) retirement savings plans; major medical plans; limited medical; dental plan; vision plan; term life insurance plans; temporary disability programs; long term disability and voluntary plans such as accident insurance and critical illness insurance.  This includes working with internal partners to establish systems, reporting and other tools need to administer the plans
  • Evaluating and comparing existing company benefits with those of other employers by analyzing other plans, surveys, and other sources of information
    • Plans, develops, and/or participates in area and industry surveys
    • Work with Broker to analyze results of surveys and develops specific recommendations for review by management
  • Developing specifications for new plans or modifies existing plans to:
    • maintain companys competitive position in labor market
    • obtain uniform benefit package for all company locations, where possible
  • Coordinating the company’s wellness initiatives
  • Vendor Management of vendors in both a self-funded and fully insured environment.
  • Annual audit preparation for Worker’s Compensation and 401(k)
  • Benefit communication and education – keeping Contractor Care and Employee Services aware of updates that will affect our employees as well as ACA education.
  • Preparing Federal and State required reporting
  • Managing and mentoring a benefits team
  • Open Enrollment preparation, implementation, and educations
  • Fiduciary responsibility for the 401(k)-retirement savings plan
  • Develops cost control procedures to assure maximum coverage at the least possible cost to company and employee and coordinates the company’s wellness program
  • Vendor management of Benefits Administration System including but not limited to file management, pricing negotiation, and open enrollment preparation

REQUIREMENTS
  • A bachelors degree and five (5) years’ experience in Benefits Administration, OR A masters degree in Human Resource Management and four (4) years’ experience in Benefits Administration, OR Any appropriate combination of education and experience
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in Benefits Administration and/or management, preferably with a multi-state employer with self-funded plans
  • 5+ years of team leadership or management
  • This position will be a hybrid role and requires 3 days in-office per week, based in Richmond, VA.
